Saddam Hussein em tribunal

Saddam e onze altos responsáveis do seu regime compareram hoje em tribunal. Recusou, assinar o documento onde constam as acusações de que é alvo, entre elas a invasão do Koweit em 1990.


«O Koweit é um território iraquiano. Não o invadi. Entrei no Koweit porque os koweitianos compravam mulheres iraquianas por 10 dinares».

As acusações pendentes contra Saddam, segundo o The Daily Telegraph, são:

"Saddam Hussein is facing charges of "crimes against humanity", an official from the Iraqi special tribunal trying Saddam said today.
The charges relate to:
* The gassing of the Kurds in Halabja in 1988.
* The violent suppression of the 1991 Shiite uprising.
* Mass graves of Kurds and Shiites after the 1991 Gulf War.
* The launching the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war.
* The 1990 invasion of Kuwait.
* Massacre of members of the Kurdish Barzani tribe in the 1980s.
* Religious Shiite leaders killed between 1980 and 1999."
